PROGRAM OVERVIEW

HIA offers international teachers and teachers-in-training the opportunity to study English and experience and American education in person through volunteering at an American elementary or high school.

1. The English Program -
Students will participate in our Intensive
English program. The Intensive English
program is designed to improve all areas of
the English language including reading,
writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary,
pronunciation, idioms, etc. All HIA teachers
are experienced American professionals
who are concerned about each student’s
academic progress. In addition to our
academic programs, HIA offers social,
recreationa,l and cultural activities on
a regular basis.
2. Teacher assistant Volunteering -
At the same time, program participants
will join classes at a local school and will
gain practical experiences in a real classroom
situation. Participants will be involved in
classroom activities and instruction as an
assistant to the American teacher.
Accomodation Choices -
Homestay with an American Family: A
homestay is the best way to experience
American daily life, learn about American
culture, and practice your English skills. All
families are carefully selected and
continuously screened. You will have a
private room in a caring family environment.
Residence Club accommodations: The
residence club is located in downtown San
Diego, close to shops, restaurants,
and public transportation. Each student will
have a private furnished studio with a private
bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, telephone,
and TV. Meals are not included.
