How long was the English & Volunteering program at HIA?

I studied Intensive English for 5 months, first of all. Then when I felt comfortable with my English level, I started my volunteering job at a local elementary school for 3 months.

What did you do at the elementary school?

I was assigned to assist a 6th grade class of 50 students. Students were pretty international and they were very energetic, cheerful, and friendly. I usually supported students by reading and writing in class, but occasionally a teacher asked me to do a little presentation on my country.

I also went to parks near the school, beaches, and hiking with students during school activities. That was so much fun for me to play with students outside the classroom.

What was the most memorable moment?

The last day of my volunteering job.

It was also the last day of the school year and the principal was giving awards on the stage to some students for their achievements. Then all of a sudden, they called my name from the stage!

I went on the stage receiving swelling applause and I just could not stop tears flowing down my cheeks.
